On 10th February (Saturday), around 100 residents of several societies in Wagholi staged a Rasta Roko protest on Bawdi Road to protest against rising issues of dust, road repair, traffic and more.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Anand Bora, Resident of Sky Water Society, Wagholi, said “In Bawdi village, stone crushers are there. So, every hour, 120 trucks, keep commuting to & fro Bawdi. Hence, a lot of dust enters the air due to the trucks carrying materials in large quantities which are beyond the permissible limit. This is very risky for people. Another thing is these trucks run at any time of the day & night without any time limit. Due to so much movement of heavy trucks, the roads have become weak. We had informed this to the authorities but no action has been taken. Hence, around 75-100 people of 5 to 6 nearby societies staged the Rasta Roko protest at Bawdi Road.”

Anand Bora further said that the protest began at around 9:30 am to 10 am which lasted for 2 hours.

As per further information shared by Sanjeev Patil, Director, Wagholi Housing Society Association (WHSA) “Today we all Society members on Bawdi Road (Bhairavnath Temple) surprised Rasta Roko against the Truck Association to find solution on dust + Timing of trucks + Road repair. Almost 100+ residents participated in the same.  Truck Association members came along with the Police DySP. A meeting with the Truck Association had been fixed today on immediate basis and assurance given to find a stepwise solution. Police authorities gave assurance on taking action against Truck drivers on violation of rules. They said we will see the effect in the next 7 days. If things don’t go that way then we all Society members will gather again.”
