A total of 43 individuals, including BJP Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate, journalist Nikhil Wagle, organizers of Nirbhay Bano Sabha and more, have been booked by Parvati Police in 2 separate FIRs in connection with the assault on Nikhil Wagle’s car on 9th February (Friday).

As per further information from the FIR accessed by Pune Pulse, on Friday, journalist Nikhil Wagle was the target of a violent attack in Pune. Wagle was attacked by a group of BJP workers who were on his way to a meeting with Nirbhay Bano when the incident happened, close to Dandekar Bridge. 

The complainant from the first FIR said that when she & another person were protecting Wagle, the BJP workers stopped them at Senadatta Police Chowki junction, physically assaulted them & poured chemicals onto them.

As per further information from the second FIR accessed by Pune Pulse, Wagle’s car was the target of vandalism in which attempts were made to throw ink on the vehicle’s body. The car was also experienced stone pelting. A prohibitory order of mob gathering was issued for the event, but a sizable amount of people of several parties still gathered, flouting the prohibitory order.

Wagle had previously criticized Prime Minister Modi after LK Advani was given the Bharat Ratna. BJP workers became enraged by his post on the subject and opposed Wagle’s Nirbhay Bano Sabha. The BJP had threatened to disrupt the meeting if it went ahead as scheduled. Wagle was adamant about holding the meeting even though the police had advised against going.

An FIR is filed against 10 individuals under Sections 147, 148, 149, 336, 324, 427 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The other FIR is filed against 33 individuals, including BJP Pune city president Dheeraj Ghate, journalist Nikhil Wagle and more, under Sections 143, 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & other relevant acts. Further investigation of the case is going on.
