Wakad: The open space in Wakad near Kalewadi phata has an illegal slum. Residents of the area allege that illegal activities are happening in the open space that belongs to Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA)

Residents of Rhythm Apartments beside the open space say that action must be taken on this issue immediately.

Abhijit Garad residing in Rhythm apartment complains, “These people openly defecate. They also operate rackets of Ganjas and pigs. Earlier too, after several complaints the authorities had deployed a police force to ask them to leave the place. But they are not leaving it and had staged a protest against these orders. These people should be relocated to another place as soon as possible. They have sometimes threatened us and the issue of safety of women and children has also risen.”

Speaking about the action taken, PCMC Assistant Commissioner Umakant Gaikwad, Ward D said, “A joint action was taken by PMRDA, Wakad Police station personnel and PCMC Ward D against the people staying here. As of now, they have been given temporary relief and asked to vacate the place by January end. PMRDA may take some action again in the future.”
