An FIR was filed on Sunday against the chairman and secretary of the housing society by a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, following his son and grandson’s near-fatal escape in the society’s malfunctioning elevator. In addition to detaining the two housing society officials, the police have also booked the security guard and a senior executive of the elevator maintenance company.

On Sunday, the day the incident occurred, the complainant filed a police complaint.

The son & the grandson of the complainant were reportedly going out on Sunday afternoon, according to the FIR. To go down, they went inside the elevator.

The complainant became aware of someone screaming after some time had passed. Upon verifying, he was taken aback to discover that his son and grandson were trapped in the elevator between the P2 level and the first floor, calling out for assistance.

In the complaint, he claimed that after approaching a security guard for assistance, he informed the complainant that he was unfamiliar with elevators, that it was a Sunday, and that no one would be coming to their aid. The complainant was then instructed to get in touch with the society’s secretary and chairman.

The chairman informed the complainant that he would get in touch with the lift companies to request assistance. The secretary did not pick up the phone.

According to FIR, the lift company’s official told the complainant not to speak with him directly and to ask him to tell his society’s chairman and secretary to get in touch with him when he asked for assistance.

A nearby tower’s technician was contacted in the meantime, and he assisted the complainant’s son and grandson in escaping the elevator. According to the complainant, his grandson felt suffocated and even puked in the lift.” Both of them were experiencing trauma.

The complainant further said that the elevators in the society are outdated, broken, and haven’t worked properly for the last two months. The executive of the lift’s company, the chairman of the society, the secretary, and the security guard all disregarded this matter, putting the complainant’s family members’ lives in danger through their negligence. Hence, the complainant filed a complaint.
