Sanjay Gandhi National Park Fire: Half Hectare Destroyed, No Casualties Reported
A major fire broke out at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali, Mumbai, on Friday evening. The fire is suspected to have been allegedly ignited by a drunk person celebrating Dhulivandan in the nearby Dahisar area.
According to reports, the fire began around 7 p.m. Large flames were seen rising from the forest area. Locals immediately informed the authorities. Soon after, five to six fire brigade vehicles and forest security guards reached the spot. After an intense effort of nearly one and a half hours, the fire was brought under control.
Officials said the fire broke out in the Rawalpada range of Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It was specifically in Survey No. 345 B of the park area. The fire started around 7 p.m. and was extinguished by 8 p.m., thanks to the efforts of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, forest staff, and the Rapid Response Team.
Initial investigations suggest that a group of people had gathered near Dahisar to celebrate the festival of Dhulivandan. It is believed that one person from the group, allegedly drunk, may have caused the fire.
The blaze destroyed nearly half a hectare of forest land. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The quick action of the fire brigade and forest officials prevented the fire from spreading further.
Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. Further action will be taken based on the findings.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is one of Mumbai’s most important green zones. Fires in this area are a serious concern due to the threat they pose to wildlife and the environment.
