The School Education Department has taken a proactive step by introducing a dedicated helpline, 14417, to assist students from the batch of 2023 in navigating their options for higher education.

Over 182,000 students from this cohort are being engaged to explore their aspirations for advanced studies. With nearly half of the process already underway, the Department is poised to address concerns of those students who opt out of pursuing further education, with the collector stepping in to oversee counseling sessions on their behalf.

Shilpi Shukla, the Operational Head, expressed, “We have been reaching out to students from the 2023 batch to offer support if they are not continuing their education. Many cite reasons such as lack of interest or financial constraints.”

Currently, this initiative has covered approximately 14 out of 38 districts in the state. Students hailing from regions like Tiruchi, Dindigul, and Krishnagiri, facing financial hardships, have been particularly assisted in understanding various government schemes aimed at facilitating higher education.

Given the rising number of students opting out of pursuing advanced studies, the government’s proactive stance underscores its commitment to ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities for all.
