The Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum has also written letters to the chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and PMC authority requesting to scrap the route or allow the vehicles to use it.

Pune: Bus Rapid Transit Routes (BRT) which were constructed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for ensuring quick reach and smooth flow of public transport within the limits of Pune has been opposed by the citizens.

Residents of Nagar road are complaining about the BRT route and have been demanding to scrap it. Two MLAs from Pune, Chetan Tupe  and Sunil Tingre, had raised the point in the winter session of the Maharashtra Assembly and had asked to either remove it or allow all vehicles to pass through it.

The Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum said that no action has been taken in this regard. The association has also written letters to the chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and PMC authority requesting to scrap the route or allow the vehicles to use it. It alleges that the state government is taking the matter lightly.

“The BRT route is a waste of money. It causes traffic issues and few accidents have also happened. The first route has been demolished for the Metro and we are demanding that the other BRT routes should be opened for vehicles,” said Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of the Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum.

Echoing the sentiments of the residents, BJP City President Jagdish Mulik, said, “We are opposing the BRT routes on Nagar Road as many buses are not running on this route.  Heavy traffic congestion happens on the road and private vehicles are not allowed on the BRT route.  The BRT route should be removed and a wide road should be made.”
