Sperm whale vomit seized by Pune forest division

Officials from the Pune forest division seized Ambergris or whale fish vomit from Pimpri Chinchwad area in the Pune district and arrested six people.

According to the information received by the Forest Department on 28 August 2021, an unknown person was selling ambergris. Accordingly, Assistant Forest Conservator, Pune Forest Department, Forest Range Officer, Bhamburda and forest workers set up a trap to catch these unidentified persons by acting as customers at Purna Nagar, Pimpri Chinchwad. Kamthe, age 45, Jyotiba Govind Jadhav, age 38, Krishnat Shripati Khot, age 59, Sujata Tanaji Jadhav, age – 44 were arrested. A total of 06 accused were nabbed and a Maruti Swift vehicle was seized alongwith whale vomit (ambergris).

This action was taken under the guidance of Rahul Patil, (IFS), Deputy Forest Conservator, Pune Forest Department, Mayur Bothe, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Pune and Pradeep Sankpal, Forest Range Officer, Bhamburda, Mahesh Mergewad, forester, Vijay Shinde, forester, Suresh Barley Forest Ranger, Rameshwar Telangre, Forest Ranger, Mohan Chavan and Forest Ranger, Dayanand Aitwad.
