India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav found himself in a lively discussion with South African players Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee during the first T20I match at Kingsmead, Durban. This incident took place in the 15th over of the Proteas’ innings, where Suryakumar was seen arguing with his opponents, which was unusual for him. His facial expressions clearly indicated his dissatisfaction with the situation on the field.

The confrontation between Marco Jansen and Suryakumar Yadav occurred just before the third ball of the 15th over. The disagreement stemmed from where wicketkeeper Sanju Samson was positioned to collect the ball, which seemed to irritate Marco Jansen.

Sanju Samson was also frustrated as he was unable to catch the ball due to Marco Jansen getting in his way. Suryakumar Yadav, unhappy with this, decided to intervene. He was seen arguing with both Marco Jansen and Coetzee.

Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav was noticeably making his case to the on-field umpires, Lubabalo Gcuma and Stephen Harris.

India secured a convincing victory in the first T20I against South Africa, taking a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. Batting first, India scored 202 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, thanks to an explosive innings of 107 runs from Sanju Samson.

This marked Samson’s second consecutive century, making him the first Indian player to achieve back-to-back centuries in T20I matches.

Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi each took three wickets, leading to South Africa being dismissed for 141 runs in just 18 overs. Ultimately, India won the match by 61 runs, maintaining their unbeaten record in T20Is at Durban.

After the match, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “We have not changed our brand of cricket in the last 3-4 series, and I’m very happy with the win. The hard work Sanju Samson has put in over the last 10 years is paying off. Even when he was in the 90s, he was still looking for boundaries, playing for the team, which shows his character exactly what we look for.”

He continued, “Our plan was to target the key wickets of Klaasen and Miller, and the spinners executed it brilliantly. As I mentioned at the toss and during the press conference, the boys have made my job easier. They are enjoying themselves on and off the field, which is a big help. The way we play, even if we lose a few wickets, we want to play fearlessly. If we can score 200 runs in 17 overs, then why not?”

India and South Africa will face off again in the second T20I of the four-match series on Sunday, November 10.
