Pune: Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Pune’s Guardian Minister, conducted an assessment of the development initiatives within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) area during a meeting held at the Government Rest House recently.

As per the information provided, Pawar issued directives to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to take appropriate action against hotels and resorts in the vicinity of Khadakwasla Dam for their failure to properly treat sewage and waste. 

As per the information received, Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, Zilla Parishad CEO Ramesh Chavan, Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Patil, Chief Engineer Atul Chavan, and other officials were present in the meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar sought information regarding the contaminated water entering the dam from the villages situated in the catchment area of Khadakwasla Dam. It is imperative to formulate a proposal for the establishment of an underground sewerage system and sewage treatment plant to address the issue of sewage originating from the villages in the dam area.

He also suggested that the  Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) should prepare a comprehensive project report on sewage and waste management for the 24 villages in the dam area. Furthermore, the divisional commissioner was instructed to convene a separate meeting to outline an immediate action plan.

The progress of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road project was also evaluated. The process of acquiring land for the road construction should be expedited. Additionally, measures should be taken to widen the road from Pisoli village. Considering the peak hours of schools, colleges, and offices, it is recommended to restrict heavy traffic on the Katraj-Kondhwa road for two hours in the morning and evening.

Pawar also sought information regarding the Krantiveer Lahuji Salve Memorial concerning the Haveli Agricultural Produce Market Committee.
