Following India’s 408-run defeat in Guwahati and a clean sweep in the two-match series, head coach Gautam Gambhir faced widespread backlash.

Team India suffered a major setback after being clean-swept 0–2 by South Africa in the recently concluded Test series. India lost the first Test by 30 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and then endured a humiliating 408-run defeat in the second Test at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. This marks India’s second home Test whitewash within a year, the previous one coming against New Zealand in 2024.

Gautam Gambhir Under Fire

Following the series defeat, head coach Gautam Gambhir has faced intense criticism from fans and former players. This is the second time India has been whitewashed in a home Test series during his tenure, leading to strong questions about the team’s preparation and strategies.

Shubman Gill Breaks His Silence

Test captain Shubman Gill, who missed the second Test and was ruled out mid-series due to a neck strain, posted a message on social media after the loss. His words appeared aimed at lifting the team’s morale amid mounting criticism.

Gill wrote:
“Calm seas don’t guide you, but storms make you stronger. We will continue to believe in each other, fight for each other and come back stronger.”

His statement comes as India registers its first home Test series whitewash against South Africa in 25 years, adding to the disappointment around the team’s performance.

Gill Likely To Return For T20s

Gill was not included in the ODI squad because of his injury, with KL Rahul set to lead the side in the ODI series beginning November 30. The squad for the five-match T20I series is yet to be announced, but early signs suggest Gill could make a comeback for the shorter format.

India will now have an extended break before their next Test assignment, giving the team time to reassess and rebuild after the back-to-back home series setbacks.
