Thane Tragedy: Two Dead, Four Injured After Jeep Rams Into Truck on Samruddhi Expressway
Family en route to Dadar for marriage talks met with accident; driver allegedly dozed off, case registered for reckless driving
A devastating road accident claimed two lives and left four others injured when a jeep carrying a family from Parbhani to Dadar collided with a truck near Amane in Thane district’s Shahapur taluka. The mishap occurred around 5 am on Thursday on a newly opened stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway.
According to Kalyan Taluka police, the family was on their way to Dadar for a marriage alliance. Preliminary investigation suggests that the jeep driver, 34-year-old Nyaneshwar Ingle, may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into a truck.
The impact of the collision was fatal for two passengers, Abdul Pasha Sheikh, 65, and Zahid Siddiqui, 40, who died on the spot. Three other family members and the driver sustained serious injuries and were initially treated at a nearby government hospital. They were later transferred to Siraj Hospital in Bhiwandi, where Ingle and one of the passengers remain in the ICU. Fortunately, one of the passengers emerged from the crash without any injuries.
A case has been registered against Ingle under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for reckless and negligent driving that endangered the lives of others. Assistant Police Inspector Bala Kumbhar confirmed that legal action will proceed once the driver recovers.
This tragic accident raises fresh concerns about road safety and driver fatigue, especially on high-speed expressways like Samruddhi, which have witnessed several incidents since their launch.
