The process of buying a home in India is about to become much easier for consumers. Currently, information about housing projects and builder performance is scattered across different websites, making it difficult to get a complete picture. This is because each state has its own Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), which maintains its own website and data format. This is about to change.

A new initiative will bring all the RERAs together under a single, unified platform. This will allow homebuyers to access information on any project or builder, regardless of where it is located in India. This will provide buyers with the information they need to make informed decisions before committing to a purchase.

According to The Times of India (TOI), a new initiative will unify all RERAs onto one platform, addressing the current scattered nature of information. To streamline this process, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, along with the All India Forum of Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (AIFORERA), the central body for all RERAs, has begun working on a solution.

Sources revealed that the details of the new system are nearly finalized, and it is expected to benefit all stakeholders. “This will make it easier for buyers to obtain the information they need. It will also help regulatory authorities in gathering data for more effective law enforcement,” said Anand Kumar, chairman of AIFORERA and Delhi RERA.

Since all real estate projects must be registered with RERA, and each authority tracks project progress, timelines, and any extensions, linking this information together for easy access shouldn’t be difficult. Supporting this move, a member of the government’s Central Advisory Council, stressed that for the system to be truly effective, all projects by a particular builder should be listed together under their group.

“Often, builders establish separate SPVs for different projects, and some of these may have a history of issues. Without displaying all their project details transparently under the builder’s group, homebuyers won’t be able to make well-informed choices,” he added.
