Uruli Devachi garbage depot in Pune to generate 400 units of solar energy per day
A new solar power plant has been set up at the waste depot in Uruli Devachi, and it has officially begun generating 400 units of electricity per day.
This marks a significant milestone for the city of Pune, as it becomes the first municipality to implement such a project. The plant, which has been set up by the Pune Municipal Corporation, will use the waste from the depot to generate power through a process known as waste-to-energy.
At this location, a project with a 100 KW capacity has been installed. The municipal corporation has spent Rs 56 lakh on this project, which would generate electricity for streetlights and other tasks inside the premises of the depot and processing facility.
Although there is a ban on dumping garbage in Uruli Devachi’s waste treatment plant, the Municipal Corporation’s treatment plant is running at that place. Apart from this, biomining is being done on the previous waste. After removing the garbage from the area where the waste has been processed, the Municipal Corporation has created a forest park on it and planted nearly 20 thousand trees.
In addition, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for the residents in the waste management and energy generation sector. The project is a boon for the environment, the economy and the people.
“At this project site, production of 400 units per day has begun, and after the summer, energy generation will also increase. Currently, this location’s Bhoomigreen Energy waste plant needs seven to seven and a half thousand units of electricity every day. However, while solar energy produces less electricity, plans are being made to use it at the project site for other important tasks,” said Srinivas Kandul, Head of the Electricity Department, PMC.
