Preliminary information suggests that a trolley (wheel assembly) of the fourth coach slipped off the track at a diamond crossing point within the station yard. Reports also indicate that one wheel of the affected coach derailed during the maneuver.

Railway authorities confirmed that the incident occurred at a non-standard diamond crossing, which had already been identified for replacement as part of the ongoing yard remodelling project at Pune station. Officials stated that instructions have been issued for the immediate replacement of such crossings, not only in Pune but across the Indian Railways network.

Emergency response teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident. Passengers remained safe, and arrangements were initiated to shift them to an alternative rake to ensure minimal inconvenience.

The incident briefly disrupted rail traffic at the station and caused panic among commuters present at the platform.

Railway officials have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the derailment. Meanwhile, authorities have reiterated their commitment to upgrading infrastructure and eliminating outdated track components to enhance passenger safety.
