IMD issues dual weather alert in Maharashtra with heatwave and thunderstorms expected on April 28. Yellow alert for 13 districts across Vidarbha, Marathwada and Western Maharashtra.

Maharashtra, April 27, 2026:
The India Meteorological Department has issued a dual weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of intense heat as well as unseasonal rain and thunderstorms on April 28. A Yellow alert has been declared for a total of 13 districts—eight for heatwave conditions and five for rainfall activity.

According to the forecast, the state is likely to witness a mix of extreme weather conditions, with rising temperatures in several regions and stormy weather in parts of Vidarbha.

In the Konkan region, including Thane, a Yellow alert for heat has been issued. Hot and humid conditions are expected, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 36°C, increasing discomfort due to high humidity levels.

Western Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur, is expected to experience hot and dry weather. Day temperatures may rise between 38°C and 42°C, prompting authorities to advise citizens to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours.

In Marathwada, districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, and Nanded remain under a heat alert, with temperatures likely to reach up to 43°C.

North Maharashtra, including Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar, will also see dry and hot conditions, with temperatures ranging from 39°C to 42°C.

Meanwhile, parts of East Vidarbha, including Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, and Wardha, are under a Yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain. These areas may witness lightning, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, and scattered showers.

In West Vidarbha, districts such as Akola, Amravati, and Yavatmal are expected to experience mixed conditions, with both heatwave impact and chances of light rainfall.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay alert and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions across the state.
