Weather Alert For February 18: Heatwave Conditions Likely Across Maharashtra in Next 24 Hours, IMD Issues Advisory
Maharashtra, February 17:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra, warning of rising temperatures and heatwave-like conditions across several regions over the next 24 hours. According to the department, there is no possibility of rainfall in the state, and citizens are advised to take precautions against intense heat, hot winds, and dehydration.
Despite being mid-February, Maharashtra is already witnessing early signs of summer. IMD forecasts indicate a 2–4°C rise in maximum temperatures, with dry, hot, and in some areas humid weather expected across most districts. People have been urged to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, drink adequate water, and protect themselves from direct sunlight.
Konkan Region and Mumbai Weather Update
The Konkan coastal belt is likely to experience hot and humid conditions. In Mumbai, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 31°C and 35°C, while minimum temperatures may hover around 23–24°C. Although mornings may feel slightly cooler, afternoons will be uncomfortable due to humidity. Skies will remain clear to partly cloudy. Tourists and beachgoers are advised to use sunscreen and stay hydrated.
Western Maharashtra: Pune, Satara, Kolhapur
Cities including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur will witness dry weather, with maximum temperatures ranging from 32°C to 36°C and minimum temperatures between 16°C and 19°C. Afternoon heat will intensify, while nights will gradually become warmer. Farmers have been advised to plan irrigation carefully for rabi crops due to low soil moisture.
North Maharashtra: Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon
In Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar districts, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with maximums between 34°C and 37°C. Light winds may prevail, and some areas could experience mild morning fog.
Marathwada and Vidarbha Face Severe Heat
Districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Nanded, and Parbhani may record 36°C to 38°C, with dry winds increasing the risk of crop stress.
Meanwhile, Vidarbha—including Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, and Chandrapur—could see the highest temperatures, with heatwave-like conditions developing due to intense sunlight and hot winds.
Public Advisory
IMD has reiterated that no rainfall or cold spell is expected on February 18. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, wear light-colored cotton clothing, and avoid outdoor activities between 12 pm and 4 pm to prevent heat-related illnesses.
