Maharashtra, May 8: Weather conditions across Maharashtra are expected to change once again, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing rain and thunderstorm alerts for several districts across the state. While coastal regions are likely to continue experiencing intense heat and humidity on May 9, many interior districts may receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in 14 districts and an orange alert for Yavatmal and Chandrapur due to the possibility of heavy rain, lightning and strong winds.

Heat Alert For Konkan Region

According to the weather department, six districts in the Konkan region — Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg — are likely to witness hot and humid weather conditions.

Residents in these areas may continue to experience discomfort due to rising temperatures and humidity levels. However, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg during the evening hours, which may provide temporary relief from the heat.

Rain Alert In Western Maharashtra

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rain in Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts. Cloudy skies and thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are likely in isolated areas. Wind speeds may also increase during the afternoon and evening hours.

Authorities have advised farmers and residents to remain cautious and stay updated on changing weather conditions.

Marathwada Districts May Receive Light Rain

In the Marathwada region, yellow alerts have been issued for Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv districts.

Meanwhile, districts including Beed, Hingoli, Pune, Satara and Ahmednagar may witness isolated light showers despite no official alert being issued.

Vidarbha On Rain And Thunderstorm Watch

The IMD has also issued yellow alerts for several Vidarbha districts, including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Washim.

These areas are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall. Sudden changes in weather conditions along with strong winds are also expected in some places.

Orange Alert For Yavatmal, Chandrapur

The weather department has issued an orange alert for Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind speeds of up to 50 to 60 kmph in isolated locations.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from open areas during lightning activity.

Heatwave Conditions To Continue In Some Areas

Despite the rainfall alerts, some parts of Maharashtra are expected to continue experiencing dry weather conditions. Maximum temperatures in these regions may remain between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures could range between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has advised citizens to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
