A staggering 2 lakh litres of grape wine were consumed by thousands of tourists at Nashik wineries during the holiday season between December 22 and December 31 of last year. This represents an increase in consumption of over 17% over 2022.

About 35,000 tourists enjoyed the joyous days of Christmas & entered in the New Year in 2023 in the renowned wineries and resorts in and around Nashik.

According to the All India Wine Producers Association (AIWPA), about 30,000 tourists had visited the wineries during the same period in 2022 and had either consumed or bought 1.7 lakh litres of grape wine. This covered both the wineries’ own production and the wine bottles that could be purchased there.

More than seven well-known wineries in Nashik’s grape-growing region are popular travel destinations for visitors from Gujarat and Mumbai. Other well-known wineries that draw a lot of visitors include York, Vallonnie, Grover Zampa, Renaissance, and Good Drops, in addition to the well-known Sula Vineyards and Soma Wine.

According to an AIWPA official, the organization hopes to see the wine industry grow by 20% annually over the next five years. In the next five years, the approximately Rs 400 crore yearly sales from Maharashtra wineries are projected to double to Rs 800 crores.

There are 3.5 lakh acres of grape plantations throughout the state, with 1.75 lakh acres located in the Nashik district. Of this, 9,000 acres are dedicated to the planting of different grape wine varieties in Maharashtra, with 6,000 acres located in the Nashik district of the state.
