Noida, May 2024 — Reckless driving incidents aimed at gaining social media fame are increasingly becoming a concern in India.

A recent viral video captures a 25-year-old from Delhi driving a Mahindra Thar dangerously near Amity University, Noida, causing widespread panic among pedestrians.

The video shows the Mahindra Thar weaving through roads, coming perilously close to pedestrians, and abruptly applying brakes, creating a sense of chaos.

The footage, which caught the attention of the Noida police, shows the SUV with tinted windows—illegal under the Motor Vehicle Act—and a front number plate displaying “Gurjar” instead of the registration number. This breach of traffic laws has been an ongoing issue, with Uttar Pradesh police issuing over 2,300 challans last year for similar violations.

Upon reviewing the video, an FIR was registered at the Sector-126 police station, and an investigation was launched. The driver, identified as Prince Mavi from Hari Nagar Extension Part-2 in Delhi, was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded.

The incident underscores the growing concern over rash driving and blatant disregard for traffic regulations in the Delhi-NCR region. Prince Mavi was fined Rs. 35,000 for multiple violations, including reckless driving, illegal use of tinted windows, and endangering public safety. The police issued e-challans under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, emphasizing the gravity of the offense.

This incident highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent dangerous stunts that put lives at risk for the sake of online attention.
