Bapat reviews construction work at Pune Airport

Pune : Girish Bapat, Member of Parliament and BJP leader, conducted a review of the developmental activities in and around the Pune airport on June 11, 2022, along with representatives of the Airports Authority of India, Pune Municipal Corporation and other stakeholders. Bapat is also the chairman of the Airport Advisory committee, Pune Airport. He visited the site of the new terminal building which is 60% completed and also, the site of the multilevel car parking which is expected to be open to the public in September.

“After discussion with Chairman-AAI, the approval for a travelator on the walkway connecting Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) to the Terminal building has been obtained and the same would be provided soon,” said Girish Bapat.

The BJP MP from Pune, Bapat also discussed with Indian Air Force officials regarding an area of 1.76 acres which was to be handed over to AAI-Pune Airport for starting an interim Cargo Facility.

“The handing over of 1.76 acres of Indian Air Force (IAF) land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) is likely to happen in the next few days. With the shifting of existing Cargo to this interim facility, the work of the new terminal building can be continued without any hindrance,” added Bapat.

He has also urged representatives of Pune Municipal Corporation and IAF to complete the necessary process of land acquisition on the western end of the runway so that the existing runway can be extended to facilitate the landing of bigger aircraft thereby improving international connectivity.

“All the infrastructural and development work being carried out in and around the airport should be completed on time so that passengers using Pune Airport can make use of these enhanced & improved facilities,” added Bapat.

“The Multilevel car parking project got delayed as work of foot over bridge took time. Instead of August, it will be completed now in September,” said Santosh Dhoke, Pune Airport Director.
