70,000 Jobs To Be Created in Maharashtra Under New Recruitment Policy: CM Fadnavis
Mumbai | February 10, 2026:
The Maharashtra government will soon launch a large-scale recruitment drive to fill over 70,000 government posts through a new, restructured recruitment system, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Sunday. The recruitment will be carried out in phases, with around 50,000 posts to be filled through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) and 20,000 posts through other recruitment agencies outside MPSC.
The Chief Minister said the recruitment process will be based on required skills, service entry norms, eligibility criteria, and job profiles, ensuring a more structured and efficient system. He directed the administration to adopt a modern, transparent, and competency-based approach to recruitment.
Fadnavis was speaking at a high-level meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to discuss reforms in the Service Entry Rules. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, along with all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Secretaries from various departments.
Emphasising administrative reforms, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to comprehensive governance, with special focus on human resource management and transparency in recruitment processes. He added that decisions regarding amendments to the Service Entry Rules would soon be placed before the state cabinet for approval.
Fadnavis stated that the General Administration Department (GAD) plays a crucial role in shaping the entire recruitment framework of the government, and not merely as a formal administrative department. He said that filling 70,000 vacancies would significantly enhance the efficiency and functioning of government departments across the state.
Highlighting Maharashtra’s leadership in governance reforms, Fadnavis said that the human resource management model presented by Maharashtra at the Chief Ministers’ Conference in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had received national appreciation. The Prime Minister had also suggested that other states adopt similar reform models, positioning Maharashtra as a national benchmark in administrative reforms, he added.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to introduce online and digital verification systems to eliminate unnecessary paperwork, long queues, and delays in recruitment. He said that if sensitive documents such as passports can be verified online, similar models should be adopted across other recruitment processes.
He further directed departments to integrate blockchain-based verification systems and make certificates available through DigiLocker, ensuring secure, tamper-proof, and transparent verification. The entire recruitment process, he said, must remain fair, unbiased, transparent, and credible, so that no candidate feels discriminated against.
Fadnavis concluded by stating that Maharashtra will develop a new governance reform model within the next one year, and called upon all departments to work collectively to successfully implement comprehensive administrative reforms across the state.
