Several places in Pune city witnessed heavy rainfall on Sunday evening leading to waterlogging on streets, trees falling and other rain-related incidences.

Within a span of two hours, the city was flooded and this kept the fire brigade teams on their toes.

Twenty five water logging- related incidents and eight incidents of trees falling down have been reported.

Citizens were seen wading through knee-deep water in most of the parts of city which resulted in heavy traffic jam on major roads.

The city has been witnessing heavy rainfall in the past few days but the rains on Sunday created havoc.

Several roads including the police stations under the jurisdiction of Pune city Police Commissionerate were inundated. This includes police station in Chandan nagar, Vedbhavan in Kothrud, Vanaz area, Pashan, Wanawadi near Sheetal petrol pump, B T Kawade road, Yerawada, Ambil Oda area and Katraj areas.

Rains uprooted the trees at NCL in Pashan, Salunke Vihar in Kondhwa, Chavannagar and Ruby Hall area in Pune station area.

On B T Kawade road, the fire bridge officials rescued the residents and helped them wade through the water.

Rainwater entered the houses of some residents in the Kothrud area of Pune. Jungli Maharaj Road and Santoshnagar areas also witnessed severe waterlogging.

A huge tree branch fell at Pashan Panchvati under which two vehicles got stuck. While one vehicle waa pulled out, the three-wheeler cargo tempo completely got stuck under the tree. No injures have been reported.

The Khadkawasala dam has reached its full capacity as the discharge from the dam head into Mutha river bed has been increased. The capacity stood at 2568 cusecs at 8 pm,informed Y.S.Bhandalkar, Assistant Engineer, Khadakwasla, Panshet and Varasgaon Projects.

The Ambil river got swollen due to cloudburst-like rain in the mountain area including Katraj Dhankawadi area on Sunday evening.

Unfortunately, 22 families were trapped and the rescue operation is on. The stream water entered atleast 11 houses here at around 6 pm.

Passengers got stranded due to heavy rainfall at Swargate bus station and this lead to traffic congestion.
