AAP Pune to hold Handa Morcha against PMC
Aam Aadmi Party has planned to drive a Handa Morcha on Monday June 20 against the PMC for turning a blind eye towards water scarcity in the city. The tanker lobby that gets support from established corporators and administrative officials has been the reason for worsening water supply situation.
Abasaheb Kamble and Sudarshan Jagdale from AAP Pune City Water Rights Movement Committee have appealed to the aggrieved citizens to support this Morcha (protest) in massive numbers.
Due to the unwanted hegemony of the water tanker lobby, many areas of the city have been facing this crisis. Areas enlisted are Baner, Balewadi, Hadapsar, Fursungi, Kale Padal, Sade Satra Nali, Mohammadwadi, Khadi Machine Chowk, Undri, Pisoli, Wadki Nala, Yeolewadi, Kondhwa Budruk, Wanwadi, Katraj, Ambegaon, Ambegaon Budruk, Narhe, Wadgaon Budruk, Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, Nanded Phata, Kirkatwadi, Kolhewadi, Khadakwasla, Warje- Malwadi Ganpati Matha, Kondhave-Dhavade, NDA Gate, Bavdhan, Sus road, Susgaon, Baner, Balewadi, Mhalunge, Dapodi, Bopodi, Mula Road, Vishrantwadi, Kalas , Lohegaon, Viman Nagar, Kharadi, Chandan Nagar bypass, Manjri, Wagholi. For this, literally lakhs of rupees are paid by societies every month. This recessionary phase has compelled Punekars to buy this scarce commodity, even in times of high inflation.Despite the Hon’ble High Court’s written orders, the Pune Municipal Corporation has not ensured adequate water supply to the existing and newly included villages. They spend crores of rupees on irrelevant constructions, unwanted schemes, faulty contracts, and retail purchases, but are insensitive to providing basic necessity i.e. water. It is high time that the PMC be made aware of its responsibility. It is abhorrent that citizens are paying lakhs of rupees for a commodity as essential as water.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s Water Rights Committee has been staging protests against this from time to time. Numerous housing societies have given their opinions and statements to the Pune Municipal Corporation on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party. However, the system is yet to open its eyes to this stark reality. The time to root out this corrupt system fully has now arrived. The Handa Morcha would be a pioneering step towards it.
