In the recent Lok Sabha elections in Pune, the contest primarily revolved around Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Murlidhar Mohol and Congress nominee Ravindra Dhangekar. However, Vasant More from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) also posed a significant challenge, potentially affecting the outcome.

Post-election, a banner appeared in Pune congratulating “Khasdar (Member of Parliament)” Mohol, indicating a potential victory. Erected by former PMC corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimhan, the banner predicts Mohol’s journey “from Karve Road to Kartavya Path.”

According to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) data shared on social media, the voter turnout stood at 51.25%, slightly higher than the previous election’s 49.89%. Notably, the Kasba Peth Assembly segment witnessed the highest turnout at 57.90%, followed by Parvati at 52.43%, Pune Cantonment at 50.52%, Shivajinagar at 49.72%, Vadgaon Sheri at 49.71%, and Kothrud at 49.10%.

Despite the electoral fervor, the elections were not without controversy. Pune City Congress chief Arvind Shinde reported an instance of fraudulent voting, claiming that someone had already cast a vote in his name at a polling booth in Rasta Peth.

Despite being on the voter list, Shinde discovered his vote had been cast. After raising objections, he was permitted to vote through the “tender vote” process using a ballot paper.
