Meghana Sakpal, the daughter of Fireman Mahendra Sakpal, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first woman to join the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Fire Brigade on the post of Fireman.

Expressing her elation, Meghana shared, “Today marks a momentous occasion for me. I am honored to be the first woman selected as a firefighter in the Pune Fire Brigade. With my family’s legacy in this profession, particularly my father’s service, I am eager to work alongside him. While my mother isn’t here to witness this achievement, I know she would have been immensely proud.” Her grandfather, Sadashiv Sakpal has also served in the fire department of PMC.

The PMC Fire Brigade celebrated Meghana’s appointment, emphasizing, “We are thrilled to announce the selection of Meghana Mahendra Sakpal as the first female firefighter in the Pune Fire Brigade. Meghana hails from a family deeply rooted in our department, with her grandfather having served and her father currently serving as a firefighter.”

Meghana Sakpal joins the PMC Fire Brigade along with 167 other newly appointed firefighters, further strengthening the department’s workforce.

Her father Mahendra Sakpal, while speaking with Pune Pulse, expressed his happiness, stating “This is the 3rd generation from our family serving in the PMC Fire Brigade. Meghana’s grandfather served Pune city as a firefighter, I am a firefighter & now Meghana has been selected as a firefighter. She always wanted to be a fire officer in the Fire Brigade. I am extremely happy & proud of this great achievement of my daughter.”
