Pune : Chandrakant Patil, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra has issued directives regarding the provision of necessary facilities for domestic passengers at Pune airport, following the opening of the new terminal. 

He emphasized the need to study all aspects to increase the runway length from the perspective of international air traffic. 

Minister Patil made these remarks during a review meeting held at Pune airport, which was attended by several dignitaries, including Saurabh Rao, Divisional Commissioner, Ritesh Kumar, Police Commissioner, Rajesh Deshmukh, District Collector, Rahul Mahiwal, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner, Vikas Dhakane, Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation and Santosh Dhoke, Airports Authority of India Pune Airport Manager.

Patil highlighted that the new terminal has ten parking bays equipped with aerobridges, and the number of airfares will reach 218, which will create adequate arrangements for domestic air traffic. He also stressed the need to make efforts to increase international air traffic in the future and carry out necessary studies in this regard. 

He further stated that a meeting would be held soon in the presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to expedite the work of Purandar Airport. Additionally, he urged the authorities to expedite the work on the road required for the new terminal.

During the meeting, Dhoke presented information about the air service at Pune Airport. He stated that around 30,000 passengers, including approximately 540 international passengers, travel daily from Pune airport.

In 2022-23, 80 lakh passengers availed the flight service through 59,451 flights, while till September this year, the number of passengers at Pune airport is more than 47 lakh by 31,591 flights. 

The number is expected to double once the new terminal is commissioned. The new terminal has an area of 51,595 sq ft and is equipped with a lot of facilities.
