Condom packs with party names: Andhra’s unusual election campaign

In an unconventional turn of events, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Andhra Pradesh have seen the distribution of condom packets featuring the names and symbols of political parties.

Leaders from both the ruling YSR Congress Party and the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have reportedly been distributing these packets as part of their campaign strategies.

Videos circulating on social media depict individuals, purportedly party workers, distributing condom packets adorned with symbols representing Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party and N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP.

In one such video, a TDP worker justifies the distribution by stating, “If there are more children, more money has to be distributed. That’s why these condoms are being distributed.” These packets are allegedly part of campaign kits handed out during door-to-door canvassing efforts.

Interestingly, despite both parties being involved in the distribution, they have resorted to criticizing each other for the unconventional campaign tactic.

The YSR Congress Party took to Twitter to express their disapproval, questioning the rationale behind distributing condoms as part of a political campaign and suggesting it could lead to further decline.

In response, the TDP shared an image of a condom pack featuring the YSR Congress logo, sarcastically questioning if this was the ‘siddam’ (preparedness) the party boasted about for their campaigns.

The use of condoms as campaign tools has stirred debate and raised eyebrows, highlighting the lengths to which political parties may go to attract voters’ attention.

This unusual approach underscores the intense and innovative strategies employed by parties in their bid to secure electoral success in Andhra Pradesh.
