In a recent move, X has made significant changes to its platform’s poll participation rules, and Elon Musk, the platform’s prominent figure, revealed that only verified, premium users will be permitted to take part in polls, covering a wide range of topics, including political matters. This decision aims to prevent the influence of bots on poll results.

The announcement came during a discussion involving writer-entrepreneur Brian Krassenstein, who advocated for allowing only users with blue checkmarks to engage in polls. In response, Musk confirmed that such a feature would be implemented in the near future.

Musk stated, “We’re changing the way polls work to allow votes exclusively from verified users. This adjustment is crucial to ensure that polls remain free from the interference of bots, especially on contentious subjects.” He further emphasized, “We’ve already taken action to combat the prevalence of bots this week.”

This strategic move by X not only reinforces the authenticity of poll results but also aligns with the platform’s recent decision to permit political advertising from US political parties and candidates.

Additionally, X has been diligently expanding its elections and safety team in preparation for the upcoming 2024 presidential election, demonstrating its commitment to fostering a secure and transparent online environment.
