Pune: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Pune has taken strict action against 144 establishments by issuing them notices for keeping adulterated food items during the Ganesh festival. The FDA has seized 31 lakh worth of adulterated food items from these establishments.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner, Food Department, FDA Pune said, “Food items such as milk, ghee, condensed milk, plants & other sweets-related items, basically all the raw materials used to prepare food & sweets during Ganeshotsav have been found adulterated. We have been doing this exercise before Ganeshotsav & till the end of Ganeshotsav. Out of 308 establishments in Pune, 144 establishments have been found keeping adulterated food items worth Rs 31 lakh.”

As per further information, a special campaign was conducted on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration, Pune to ensure that the citizens get clean, pure food items during Ganeshotsav. 

It collected samples for 308 establishments in the Pune district and issued rectification notices to 144 of them. A stock of adulterated food worth Rs 31 lakh was seized. It is worthy to note that before Ganeshotsav, FDA Pune had warned all shopkeepers and companies not to do adulteration in foods.

A total of 150 food samples of food items such as milk, khawa, paneer, sweet mawa, cow ghee, butter, plants etc. were taken for analysis from the establishments. Further action will be taken after receiving the analysis report.
