Good News for Satara–Kolhapur Youth: IT Park Project Moving Faster, Land Transfer Issue Solved, Says Minister Samant
Major update for western Maharashtra as the state accelerates plans for IT parks in Satara and Kolhapur, with land transfer and investor outreach now moving ahead.
The Maharashtra government has stepped up efforts to develop IT parks in Satara and Kolhapur, with Industries Minister Uday Samant confirming that land reservation and transfer processes are underway for both projects.
The move is being seen as a significant boost for jobs, investment and technology-led growth in western Maharashtra.
Key Update From Minister Uday Samant
Speaking to reporters, Samant said the government has decided to establish IT parks in both Satara and Kolhapur.
He said, “We have decided to set up IT parks at two places in western Maharashtra, Satara and Kolhapur.”
The minister added that the process of transferring land to MIDC is progressing, which is a major administrative step before development begins.
Kolhapur Project Gets Land Transfer Push
In Kolhapur, the Revenue Department has issued an ordinance to transfer 34.36 hectares of land at Shenda Park currently under the Agriculture Department for the proposed IT park.
Officials said the land will be transferred through the Revenue Department to MIDC, after which planning and development work can begin.
Satara Project Also Moves Forward
For Satara, Samant said land will be reserved and transferred to MIDC soon. He also announced outreach efforts to attract companies and entrepreneurs.
According to the minister, workshops for IT entrepreneurs will be organised in Satara and Kolhapur to build investor interest and encourage industries to set up operations in the upcoming parks.
Why It Matters
The twin IT park push could reduce migration of skilled youth to Pune, Mumbai and Bengaluru by creating local employment opportunities closer to home.
It may also help build new ecosystems around software services, startups, back-office operations and support industries in the two districts.
Bigger Regional Signal
The simultaneous push for Satara and Kolhapur suggests the state is looking beyond traditional metro hubs and promoting tier-2 cities as future technology centres.
If executed on schedule, the projects could reshape employment prospects for thousands of young people in western Maharashtra.
