Recent reports indicate that the ICC has decided to cancel a significant event related to next year’s Champions Trophy, which was set to be announced on November 11 in Lahore. This decision is due to scheduling difficulties, particularly concerning matches involving India.

According to Cricbuzz, the ICC had initially intended to announce an event to mark the 100-day countdown to the Champions Trophy. However, complications in scheduling have led them to postpone this announcement.

An official familiar with the situation told Cricbuzz, “The schedule isn’t finalized yet; we’re still in talks with the host country and the participating nations regarding the Champions Trophy timetable. We’ll make an announcement through our usual channels once it’s confirmed.” Another official addressed the controversy surrounding the November 11 event, stating, “It was just a kickoff for the trophy tour and a branding launch for the tournament. That event is still being planned, but it might be postponed due to the current challenges with outdoor activities in Lahore.”

It is believed that the issues might have stemmed from the complications related to India’s participation in the tournament, particularly regarding their travel to Pakistan. It is also likely that the ICC will mention the worsening weather conditions in Lahore as a reason for the delay.

Since the ICC awarded the 2025 Champions Trophy to Pakistan, there have been concerns about whether India will participate in this significant event, especially due to the diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring countries.

The BCCI has reportedly informed the ICC that the Indian government has denied permission for the team to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming event.

According to a source from the BCCI, “This is an ICC event, and the BCCI has notified the global organization that it will not be traveling to Pakistan. It will be up to the ICC to inform the host country about this situation and finalize the tournament schedule. Typically, the schedule is announced 100 days before the event starts.” The BCCI’s notification about its inability to go to Pakistan would leave the PCB with no choice but to hold the Champions Trophy using the ‘Hybrid Model’. However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated in a press conference that his board has not yet received any formal communication from the BCCI.

“Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of PCB, stated clearly that if the Indian cricket board has any concerns, they need to communicate them in writing. He mentioned that there has been no discussion about a hybrid model so far, but they are open to talks on the matter. Naqvi also pointed out that if the Indian media is reporting this, there should be some correspondence from the ICC or the Indian Board, but he confirmed that no such letter has been received by him or the PCB.”
