Pune: Due to the excitement surrounding the Cricket World Cup final which will be played between Australia and India at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, the tariffs of hotel room and airfares in the city have skyrocketed.
Narendra Somani, President of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of Gujarat, has reported that fans from Dubai, Australia and South Africa are eager to attend the World Cup final, demonstrating the passion for the tournament that transcends beyond India. The Narendra Modi Stadium can accommodate more than 1.20 lakh people, 30,000 to 40,000 spectators from outside are expected.
Prices of Hotel Rooms
Due to the increased demand, Ahmedabad’s best five-star hotels are quoting prices for the night of the match as high as Rs 2 lakh, and other hotels are also increasing their rates by five to seven times. Rates for hotel rooms have increased significantly in response to the high demand, now ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh for rooms that were previously offered at nominal rates. It is anticipated that as match day draws near, the trend will spread to neighbouring towns.
Prices of Flight Tickets
In comparison to regular rates, the cost of airline tickets from a number of destinations to Ahmedabad has also increased dramatically. For example, flights from Chennai, which used to cost about Rs 5,000, are currently priced between Rs 16,000 and Rs 25,000. The increased demand for Ahmedabad from different locations is the reason for the overall increase in airfares.
