Is FASTag Annual Pass for All Private Vehicles? NHAI Busts Viral Claims Calling 6–7 Seaters Ineligible
Authority clarifies that cars, jeeps and vans of all seating capacities are eligible; social media rumours calling 6–7 seaters ineligible are false
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a clear clarification to stop the spread of false information about the FASTag Annual Pass. Rumours circulating on social media had claimed that the scheme is only meant for five-seater vehicles and that six- or seven-seater cars are not eligible. NHAI has firmly denied this and called such claims completely fake.

NHAI has stated that the FASTag Annual Pass is applicable to all non-commercial vehicles, including cars, jeeps and vans, regardless of their seating capacity. This means whether a vehicle has five seats, six seats, or seven seats, it is eligible as long as it is registered for private use and has an active FASTag.
The authority clarified that “all non-commercial Car/Jeep/Van with active FASTag are eligible for the Annual Pass.” This directly counters the misinformation that three-row vehicles or larger family cars are excluded from the scheme.
The FASTag Annual Pass is a new initiative launched by NHAI on 15 August 2025. Under this scheme, private vehicle owners can pay a one-time amount of ₹3,000 and get access to 200 toll crossings on NHAI-operated toll plazas across the country. The pass remains valid for one year from the date of activation or until the 200 trips are completed, whichever comes first.

Each toll crossing is counted as one trip. Once the limit of 200 crossings is exhausted, normal toll charges will apply again. This scheme is aimed at frequent highway users who travel regularly and want predictable and lower toll expenses.
The annual pass can be activated on an existing FASTag. There is no need to purchase a new FASTag separately. It is also strictly non-transferable, meaning it can be used only for the vehicle on which it is registered. One vehicle’s FASTag cannot be used for another vehicle.
However, the pass is applicable only on National Highways and Expressways that are operated by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Some expressways and State Highways are not covered under this scheme. Motorists are advised to check whether a particular toll plaza falls under NHAI before assuming the pass will be accepted there.
Key points of the FASTag Annual Pass:
- Applicable only for non-commercial vehicles (private cars, jeeps and vans)
- Seating capacity does not matter
- Cost: ₹3,000
- Validity: One year or 200 toll crossings
- After 200 trips, regular toll charges apply
- Valid only on NHAI and MoRTH-operated highways
- Non-transferable
- Works on existing FASTag
To activate the FASTag Annual Pass, vehicle owners can:
- Download the ‘Rajmargyatra’ app or visit the official NHAI website
- Verify their Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and FASTag details
- Make a payment of ₹3,000
- The pass is usually activated within two hours
NHAI has urged people not to believe unverified social media posts and to rely only on official announcements and platforms. The authority said the scheme is meant to benefit all private vehicle users equally and no category has been excluded based on seating capacity.
With this clarification, NHAI has made it clear that the FASTag Annual Pass is for every non-commercial car, jeep and van, whether it is a small hatchback or a large seven-seater family vehicle.
