Maharashtra, April 1, 2026: The threat of unseasonal rainfall continues to loom over Maharashtra as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across the state on Thursday, April 2.

At the beginning of April, several parts of the state are already witnessing unstable weather conditions, raising concerns over agricultural losses. The IMD has issued an orange alert for 9 districts and a yellow alert for 23 districts, warning of intensified weather activity.

Konkan Region

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and Palghar. Meanwhile, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are under a yellow alert, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Western Maharashtra

Pune has been placed under an orange alert, with the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds blowing at 50–60 kmph. Kolhapur may experience light rain, while Sangli, Satara, and Solapur are under a yellow alert with chances of moderate showers. Hailstorms are also likely in isolated areas.

North Maharashtra

Districts including Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Ahilyanagar are under an orange alert. Thunderstorms and increased wind speeds are expected, prompting authorities to advise caution.

Marathwada

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed are on orange alert, with winds expected to reach 50–60 kmph. Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv are under a yellow alert, with moderate rainfall likely.

Vidarbha

Several districts including Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal are under a yellow alert. Winds in the range of 40–50 kmph along with rain and thunderstorms are expected.

Advisory

The unseasonal weather may lead to lightning strikes, strong winds, and hailstorms, posing a risk to crops, orchards, and livestock. Farmers are advised to take necessary precautions to protect harvested and standing crops.

The IMD has urged citizens to remain alert and avoid open areas during thunderstorms as the risk of lightning and weather-related damage remains high across the state.
