Maratha reservation protest: Manoj Jarange-Patil withdraws hunger strike
Manoj Jarange-Patil, a Maratha reservation activist, called off his hunger strike on Monday. He explained that he was making the decision in light of the uncertainty surrounding his health in Maharashtra and the purported “curfew” that prevented his supporters from traveling to Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna.
In Antarwali Sarati, Jarange said that he will go through treatment for a few days, and then he will go on a statewide tour. It was the seventeenth day of his hunger strike in support of the Maratha reservation.
Patil, though, declared that he would carry on the demonstration by organizing a relay agitation.
Jarange further said that he is going to keep agitating until the government accedes to the demands of the Maratha community. It will be necessary to include the section about including sage soyare.
The move was made one day after he claimed that senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was “conspiring to eliminate him” and that some of his estranged colleagues were levelling accusations against him.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar then asked the activist to be careful when criticizing government employees. The Maratha activist’s words, according to Fadnavis, are becoming more and more like opposition parties.
