The series of accidents in Pimpri-Chinchwad continues, and a deeply disturbing incident has added to the growing concern over road safety in the city. A speeding PMPML electric bus hit two sisters while they were crossing the road, killing a 9-year-old girl on the spot and leaving her pregnant sister critically injured. The horrifying moment was captured on CCTV near Talawade Chowk around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
What Happened
The girl who died has been identified as Sudha Biharilal Verma (9). Her seriously injured sister is Radha Rammanoj Verma. Police have detained the bus driver, Kiran Bhatu Patil, following the incident.
Radha and her husband work at a private company in Talawade. Since Radha is pregnant, she had called her younger sister Sudha from their village two months ago to help with daily chores. Their brother also lives with them and works at a private firm.
On Tuesday afternoon, Radha returned home from her job around 1 pm, had lunch and started walking back to work with Sudha. While crossing the Talawade–Nigdi road, the two were hit by a fast-approaching PMPML bus.
