In a bid to tackle severe traffic congestion, around 35 Ganesh mandals from central areas of the city have decided to come together for a collective Dahi Handi celebration. The joint event will take place at Lal Mahal Chowk, aiming to ease the traffic woes that have been exacerbated by rain and poor road conditions.

The decision was led by members of the Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust. Punit Balan, a trustee, explained that the initiative was inspired by the mounting pressure on police to manage security and traffic for individual celebrations. He noted, “The police are under immense pressure due to expanding Dahi Handi celebrations, which leads to severe traffic issues and noise pollution. By holding a joint event, we hope to reduce these problems and support the police.”

The collective celebration is expected to relieve some of the traffic snarls that commuters are currently facing. This unified approach also aims to minimize noise pollution and make the festivities more manageable for the city’s residents.

In response to the anticipated crowd, the city traffic police have announced various traffic diversions. These changes are being implemented to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the Dahi Handi celebrations and to ensure public safety.

Residents are advised to stay informed about the traffic diversions and plan their routes accordingly to avoid disruptions. The collaborative celebration marks a step towards more organised and considerate festival celebrations in the city.
