In a bid to streamline waste management in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation has ordered contractors to start their waste treatment projects by 7 am. This move comes after long queues of vehicles transporting waste were seen outside projects, affecting waste management and causing delays for train commuters.

The city generates around 2200 tonnes of waste daily, which is collected and processed by contractors. However, their late start times were causing a bottleneck in the system. “We have instructed contractors to start their projects early to ensure smooth waste management,” said Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.

A meeting was held with contractors on August 26, where the issue was highlighted, and they were told to plan to start their projects by 7 am. Contractors have also been instructed to stagger their lunch breaks to prevent project closures, which were causing afternoon queues.

“We will ensure that waste management in the city is improved, and we will monitor the situation closely,” added Prithviraj B.

The move is expected to bring relief to residents and commuters who were affected by the delays. With the new timings, the city’s waste management system is expected to run more efficiently, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
