Renovation work on Pune Airport’s old terminal is scheduled to start in October and finish by March 2025, according to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke explained that while some flights are still operating from the old terminal due to pending immigration clearances, the plan is to transfer all operations to the new terminal once approvals are finalized.

The renovation will modernize and expand the old terminal. The current arrival hall will be transformed into an extended departure area, connected to the new terminal by a corridor. This upgrade aims to enhance the overall passenger experience.

On July 14, 2024, the new Integrated Terminal Building at Pune Airport was officially commissioned, boasting a peak hour capacity of 3,000 passengers and featuring 34 check-in counters. Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, highlighted in a post on X that to further improve passenger experience and streamline check-in processes, AAI plans to add 16 more check-in counters and enhance the security check area. The old terminal’s arrival hall will be revamped to serve as an extended departure hall, with a connecting bridge to the new terminal. This expansion will add 4,000 square meters of space at a cost of ₹25 crore, expected to be completed by March 2025.

Despite these improvements, some travelers have raised concerns. User Kushagra commented, “That’s ok, but taking a cab from New Terminal is definitely not working for anyone. 1. Shuttle service should have more frequency as flights are arriving. 2. It’s not easy with heavy luggage and with elderly people to take this Shuttle service and go to Aeromall to pick up the cab. Please consider these points for a better experience of travellers.”

Similarly, Vikas suggested, “Indeed great work done here. Just a humble request to revisit Ola Uber pick up facilities on arrival. Shuttle bus service is not a solution. We need to think from a future standpoint.”

These feedbacks highlight the need for improved transport and pickup solutions to complement the ongoing upgrades at Pune Airport.
