Pune: Citizens Demand Accountability From PMC Over Persistent Waterlogging At Ramwadi Underpass
Pune, September 10, 2024 – Despite multiple complaints and news articles, residents are expressing frustration over the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) failure to address ongoing waterlogging issues at the Ramwadi underpass connecting Kalyani Nagar to Pune Airport road. The problem, first reported in June 2024, persists even without rainfall, causing concern for public safety.
Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of the Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum, has been leading the charge, highlighting the PMC’s inaction. “We sent our latest complaint with photos on September 4, 2024, yet nothing has been done. Despite media attention two months ago, PMC officials remain indifferent. No one is taking responsibility,” she said.
The underpass, a crucial link between Viman Nagar, the airport, and Kalyani Nagar, has been plagued by flooding and waterlogging. Sukhrani also pointed out that the PMC had previously claimed to have found mattresses and pillows clogging the stormwater drains but has since failed to resolve the issue.
Residents are now calling for the PMC Commissioner to issue show-cause notices and suspend officers who have neglected their duties, further questioning the lack of pre-monsoon maintenance. “This is a matter of public safety, and the PMC’s response has been inadequate,” added Sukhrani.
Photographs taken on September 4 show continued waterlogging at the site, prompting renewed calls for immediate action.
