The state government is set to approve new property registration offices in both city and rural areas. This move comes before the code of conduct for the assembly elections is enforced. The proposal, submitted last week, addresses concerns about overcrowded and under-equipped property registration offices.

There are currently 519 property registration offices in the state. The plan involves opening additional offices in city areas with high transaction volumes. Offices processing over 8,000 transactions per month will receive a new office nearby to handle the increased demand. Similarly, rural areas with 5,000 to 6,000 monthly transactions will also get additional offices in the vicinity. This is aimed at improving access and service in both urban and rural locations.

Citizens have complained about the poor infrastructure in these offices, including issues with seating and drinking water. Although some offices have undergone renovations, the new additions are expected to alleviate the strain on existing facilities.

Meanwhile, despite calls from the Centre to reduce stamp duty to stimulate the real estate sector, the state government has decided against any changes. Developer bodies had proposed a 2% reduction in stamp duty, but senior officials confirmed that the current rates and ready reckoner rates will remain unchanged this year.

The additional property registration offices aim to better manage the high volume of transactions and improve service quality across the state.
