Pune: Congress by-poll candidate from Kasba Peth assembly constituency alleged that BJP is using money and muscle power to influence the voter with the help of the police force. Ravindra Dhangekar, along with his wife and party workers staged a protest near Kasba Ganpati Mandir on Saturday morning, less than 24 hours before the voting day.

Addressing the media, Dhangekar said, “BJP people are influencing voters by distributing money in front of police officers. This is nothing but the murder of democracy.” He added that he had approached the police station and provided videos of money distribution to concerned authorities, but they told that they were helpless. “If police are helpless, then to whom should we approach? Hence we have decided to stage a protest against BJP at Kasba Ganpati mandir,” lashed Dhangekar during his protest.

BJP Pune City President Jagdish Mulik quashed these allegations and replied that the opposition party came to know that they are losing elections and hence they are making such baseless allegations. “In fact, from Friday evening, no one can participate in the political campaign, but by making such allegations and protests, they are indirectly doing their campaign, which is illegal,” he told the media.

The police authorities were finally able to convince Ravindra Dhangekar that they will take action against any such illegal things found by them during the implementation of the code of conduct and that he should call off the protest. Dhangekar accepted and called off the protest later in the day.
