Pune News: Sound Amplifiers Allowed Until Midnight for Sawai Gandharva Music Festival on December 21
The Pune district administration has granted permission for the use of loudspeakers and sound amplification systems from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on December 21, 2024, during the 70th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival, to be held from December 18-22. This approval comes under the directive of District Collector Dr. Suhas Divse.
For Pune district, 15 special days are allocated annually for loudspeaker use beyond standard limits. Thirteen of these days have already been utilized, and, based on a request from the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, one of the remaining days has been sanctioned for December 21 to support the festival.
In compliance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and its 2017 amendment, the festival organizers are required to adhere strictly to prescribed sound levels. Sound barriers, such as specific wooden materials to absorb excess noise, must be installed where necessary. The guidelines mandate adherence to zoned noise limits, with no exceptions for silence zones.
