Pune: Over 200 kg Waste Cleared In Massive Riverbank Cleanup Near Bhide Bridge
Pune, December 1, 2025: In a significant step toward rejuvenating the Mula–Mutha river stretch, a large-scale cleanup drive near Bhide Bridge removed more than 200 kg of waste over the weekend. The initiative was led by the Ocean Ally Foundation, under the guidance of Founder and CEO Karn Ragade.
The drive witnessed an impressive turnout, with around 80 volunteers from Black & Veatch Pune joining hands with 12 young participants, reinforcing the importance of involving children in environmental conservation efforts. Together, the group collected nearly 50 bags of debris, exposing the severe pollution plaguing the riverbank.
The waste gathered during the operation included plastic bottles, caps, cloth pieces, syringes, condoms, tobacco wrappers and other hazardous materials, all of which pose serious risks to the river ecosystem as well as public health.
The initiative received vital support from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Atiq Sayyed from the Vishrambaug Wada ward office ensured smooth coordination by providing protective gloves for volunteers and arranging a pickup truck to transport the collected waste.
Expressing gratitude for the cooperation, Ocean Ally Foundation’s CEO, Karn Ragade, highlighted the importance of collective action. “This effort was more than just a cleanup—it demonstrated the impact of joint responsibility between citizens, corporates, and civic authorities in combating environmental degradation. We are thankful for the enthusiastic participation from Black & Veatch and the essential assistance from the PMC,” he said.
The successful drive served as a strong reminder of the urgent need for continued community involvement to protect and revive Pune’s river systems.
