The barking of a dog sparked an altercation between two residents of a society in Wagholi on February 5 at approximately 8 p.m. One of the other residents verbally attacked a woman. The police station in Lonikand has received a case. The complaint was filed by the complainant and a resident of the same housing society.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vishwajit Kaingade, Senior Police Inspector, Lonikand Police Station, said “A stray dog barked on a pet dog as well as it’s owner, a society resident, due to which the resident abused a woman who is also a resident of the society & a dog lover. Hence, the woman complainant has filed an FIR against the person.”

Kaingade further said “Stray dogs keep entering the society premises. Hence, some residents of the society oppose this & say that stray dogs must not be allowed inside the society. However, 12 to 13 people, who are dog lovers, feed the stray dogs & say that these are community dogs & we must take care of them. We will not allow these dogs to be heckled out of the society.”

The woman and her spouse are actively involved in providing care for disabled dogs as well as feeding, neutering, and vaccinating stray dogs. Also, the accused has two dogs as pets. The complainant and the accused live in different society wings.

On February 5, the complainant was crossing the society’s parking lot when the incident happened. Dogs began barking when the accused and his two pet dogs came in contact with other dogs in the society premises. Hence, the accused allegedly abused the complainant in English out of fury.Shreyas Vange
