As the Pune Municipal Corporation workers are finding it difficult to install water meters while ensuring their own safety, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC’s) Water Supply Department has requested for appointing security guards to protect the employees from any kind of opposition while installing water meters at houses in Pune.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Nandkishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer, PMC Water Supply Department, said “PMC water supply department is constantly working on installing water meters at all houses, residential societies etc in Pune. However, due to several people opposing to install the water meters or vested interests, especially from political parties, it is getting a bit difficult for us to rapidly complete the water meter installation work. Hence, we have requested the PMC commissioner to appoint security guards with the PMC employees for their protection as well as to swiftly complete the water meter installation work.”

Jagtap further continued “The major work of water meter installation, under the 24×7 water supply project, has been completed. The water meters will help us determine how much water is being consumed in every household, if there are any leakages in water pipelines and more. Major work of the water meter installation is remaining in Kothrud, Peth areas, Sahakarnagar, Katraj, Hadapsar etc. The deadline for the completion of the water meter installation project is till the next 5 to 6 months.”

Jagtap further said that the security guards will be from the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF). The PMC additional commissioner has approved the proposal for appointing security guards. Soon, the security guards will be appointed for the protection of PMC Water Supply Department workers.
