Satyaki Ashok Savarkar, the grand-nephew of Hindutva ideology Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, expressed frustration on Thursday over what he perceives as a prolonged investigation by Pune police into his criminal defamation complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing reporters, Satyaki Savarkar voiced his concerns regarding the sluggish progress of the probe, following a recent request by the police for additional time from a local court to furnish a report on the complaint.

The complaint, filed by Satyaki Savarkar last April, alleges that Rahul Gandhi made unfounded assertions about the late revolutionary during a speech delivered in London in March 2023.

Gandhi purportedly claimed in his address that Savarkar had recounted an incident in a book where he and several associates assaulted a Muslim man, deriving pleasure from the act. Satyaki Savarkar refuted these claims, stating unequivocally that no such incident ever occurred and that his ancestor never made such statements in any written work.

During a press conference, Satyaki Savarkar highlighted that the court had previously instructed the Vishrambaug police to scrutinize the evidence he provided and submit a report by May 27. Typically, in such cases, the court mandates a preliminary investigation to ascertain the merits for registering a First Information Report (FIR).

Satyaki Savarkar reiterated his demand for an expedited investigation into the matter, emphasizing the importance of timely justice and resolution in cases involving defamation allegations.
