Pune, September 1, 2025: The prestigious Southern Command Gold Cup was conducted by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Ltd on Sunday, 31 August 2025, at Pune. The event, known for its rich legacy in the Indian racing calendar, witnessed enthusiastic participation and spirited competition.
Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, ParamVishishtSeva Medal (PVSM), AtiVishishtSeva Medal (AVSM), General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The keenly contested race was won by Moneyfair, ridden by jockey Prashant P. Dhebe. The Army Commander presented the coveted trophy to the winners and commended the RWITC for the meticulous conduct of the event.

The Southern Command Gold Trophy, first run on 4 September 1948, has a storied history. Initially open to horses in Class II and III (categories of horses as per racing standards), covering a challenging mile and a half, the race earned Listed status in 1986 and was elevated to a Grade 3 event in 1999, marking its stature as a premier competition in Indian horse racing.
Beyond its sporting significance, the Southern Command Gold Cup stands as a symbol of the strong ties between the Indian Army and the Royal Western India Turf Club. The enduring partnership continues to inspire turf aficionados and reinforce traditions of discipline, excellence, and camaraderie.
