Pune, January 18,2024: India’s longest running and popular international tennis tournament which has witnessed two Grand Slam champions Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu NECC Deccan ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament will be played at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Courts from 20-28 January 2024

The 22nd edition of the is being organized under the auspices of the ITF, AITA and MSLTA by Deccan Gymkhana and sponsored by National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC).

The tournament has seen past winners like Emma Raducanu, Aryna Sabalenka, Bojana Jovanovski, Magda Linette, Kateryna Bondarenko who all went on to become top 20 players on the WTA tour.

The event enjoys the distinction of being one of the longest running international tournament in the world with the same sponsor National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) has given women’s tennis a new dimension in India after an initiative taken by Mrs. Anuradha Desai 23 years ago.

The event has been upgraded to a 50K event this year with the help and initiative of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the AITA, the event was upgraded to a $40K event from $25000 event last year. The event also made headlines last year being the only tournament to have an All Women organizing and technical squad.

In the last 22 years the event has grown from a $5000 event to now a 50 K event, the event held annually since 2001 as a $5000 event, from 2002–2005 it was upgraded to US$10,000 event, and then was upgraded to $25,000 in 2006-2008. In 2009, it was $50,000 to celebrate 10 years of the event. Since 2010 till 2020 it has been a $25,000 event, next year we would like to make the event a 75K event with the help of MSLTA, AITA and ITF said Ashwin Girme Tennis Secretary Deccan Gymkhana and Tournament Director.

22nd NECC Deccan ITF $50,000 Women’s Tennis Tournament Begins From January 20

Pune, January 18, 2024: The 22nd NECC Deccan ITF $50,000 Women’s Tennis Tournament sponsored by National Ag Coordination Committee (NECC) organized by Deccan Gymkhana and approved by ITF, AITA and MSLTA has been organized at Deccan Gymkhana Tennis Court. It will be staged from 20th to 28th January 2024.

The NECC Deccan ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament is India’s longest-running tournament, with Aryana Sablenka and Ima Radukanu winning two Grand Slam titles.

Also, previous winners of the tournament, Ima Radukanu, Aryana Sabalenka, Bojana Jovanovski, Magda Lineti, Katerina Bondarenko have also been ranked among the top 20 players on the WTA Tour.

An initiative taken by Anuradha Desai of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) 23 years ago, it is one of the longest running international level competitions supported by a single sponsor.

With the initiative of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), AITA, the standard of this tournament has been raised this year and a tournament worth 50,000 dollars has been organized this year. Earlier this tournament was $25,000, then it was increased to $40,000. Also, a feature of last year’s competition was that everything from planning to judging was done by women first.

This competition has been running since 2001 and at that time the prize money of this competition was 5,000 dollars. But in 2006-2008, the prize money of this competition was increased to 25,000 dollars. In 2009, the prize was increased to $50,000 for its 10th anniversary, and from 2010 to 2020, the prize money was increased to $25,000. Ashwin Girme, Secretary of Tennis Department of Deccan Gymkhana said that we intend to dollarize this tournament next year with the cooperation of MSLTA, AITA and ITF.

Sundar Iyer, Joint Secretary of AITA and Honorary Secretary of MSLTA, said that the tournament will provide an opportunity for Indian players to earn important WTA points.
